Interesting observation Simon, I would suggest giving it a bit more time, perhaps different tracks, vocals, bass heavy etc etc all to discern if there is a difference you can hear based on genre. Especially where there is a stable grid voltage which there.is in Ireland Plus filters in the capacitors supplying the transformers on the mono locks are massive...

Perhaps contacting the shop for their impression of the amp would be best, tell them your speakers, source & room set up etc
