Re: NOT QUITE NEVER AGAIN, THE GROUP BUY DAC BUILD
Coz all the regulators are in series we opted for plastic backed regs to save worrying about shorts on the heatsink https://uk.farnell.com/stmicroelectronics/ld1085p/v-reg-adj-1-25-28v-1085-to220fp3/dp/1087151 These super caps are an absolute pig to charge up. 360 farads Maybe 20 min( have not time...

Re: NOT QUITE NEVER AGAIN, THE GROUP BUY DAC BUILD
Looking good, guys - great progress
Any listening impressions from the get-together?
Nige, what regulator are you using?
Does it stands up well to the near short circuit of the caps when depleted?

Re: NOT QUITE NEVER AGAIN, THE GROUP BUY DAC BUILD
Nige, you are probably using the same passive I/V as the DDDAC design uses?
You could probably get a good uplift in sound using Richard's filter & I/V?

Re: NOT QUITE NEVER AGAIN, THE GROUP BUY DAC BUILD
Yea, keeping caps at different voltages is not detrimental to them or affect their current delivery capabilities & is a clever way of combining voltages for various power rail requirements

Re: NOT QUITE NEVER AGAIN, THE GROUP BUY DAC BUILD
We're using the amp power supply system Nothing completely set in stone though This is the way i envisage it Five supercaps Set to 1.65,1.65,2.35,2.35,2.35 So we have 3.3v 8v and 10 odd volts The dac has on board regs 10v for that That manages power up then there's the direct supercap power that by...

Re: NOT QUITE NEVER AGAIN, THE GROUP BUY DAC BUILD
Nige
Are you using regulators on the DAC board or how are you keeping the voltage steady?
From what I can understand, you are not concurrently charging supercaps while playing DAC, are you?
Have you found the sound better when not concurrently charging?

Re: NOT QUITE NEVER AGAIN, THE GROUP BUY DAC BUILD
Well done Nige - I didn't see this thread before - Fran mention something about your DAC & I guessed it was the PCM1794 but I didn't know you were doing another Group effort Never say never again - I'm told it's like childbirth - you forget the pain of the last birth & go ahead with another ...

Re: Tour & feedback of different PSes
I am looking for upgrading my PS on the miniPC, but not sure how that going to work. It needs output 12V 3A. Thanks Georgi I would imagine that the 3Amps is really a peak current draw rather than constant current requirement Can you give me a link to the miniPc so i can study the spec & require...

Re: Tour & feedback of different supercapacitor PSes
John i am happy to give them a go if there still available. I could try them on my ppang usb card maybe? Thanks for resurrecting an ignored thread, Tony Is your PPang USB card 5V input? Another Tony in Dublin is first & he should be getting it this week so when he has auditioned it. Anybody els...
