Re: Cloney?

Heh, I have the pre-owned and ex-dem section bookmarked, so I rarely look at anything else... They're definitely open, though, and doing a roaring trade from what I can tell. I think for many people lockdown meant more time at home and often more disposable income, so upgrades were plentiful. There...

Re: Making a £13000 Turntable

Sorry to hear that Ivor that sounds nasty. Laura works in St Vincent's occasionally for cover. I will get her to keep an eye out for a Victor Meldrew type with a full head of hair :) Wish you a speedy recovery. Let me know if you need any refreshments or hifi cables to be dropped into the ward. Will...

Re: I do not need another DAC

Met Fran covertly on the covid border between Kildare and Dublin. It was all very clandestine, lurking around in a garden centre checking the coast was clear and we were not being watched. Got the MDF board home after being given the instructions from Fran. It would not self destruct after 30 second...

I am hoping to get a listen/loan next week of one of the trial iterations of this dac. Looking forward to the silky sounds.

Re: Quiet competence or occasional magic?

I did notice a lot of white smoke around the blackrock area at some stage during the week. Some locals were telling me they hadn't seen that for nearly 20yrs. Of course people in glass houses need to be careful. It is a long time since my wallet was prized open for system changing Nordost Blue heave...

Re: Mains Supply

I had a Power inspired regenerator the 500W version. I used it on and off over the years. It was used on the valve amp simply because the supply into the house fluctuating a bit and was sometimes down to 214v. I wanted a steady regenerated supply to the amp. The logic in my head was this would prote...

Re: The Hifi Hospital disappeared

Echo Fran's comments. I was watching this thread and initially wondered had some covid related issue hit this business but thankfully they were just offline or sidelined by the lock down. Hope they were not in Dubai for any cosmetic procedures? :)

Re: Brexit

First attempt at buying something from the UK was successful for me. It was a secondhand USB cable and the guy marked it as valued at £20. Got here in 8 days and I think because of the size of the packet and value no customs interventions. Continue to order stuff from Europe generally Germany and ha...

Re: Quiet competence or occasional magic?

There's lots of tasty stuff on the go at the moment, and I'm intrigued by both the Hegel and (especially!) the McIntosh stuff, but I'm trying to resist spending too much. Of course I can already feel the budget creep kicking in... It's kinda not the same without the ability to pop into the shop and...
