Any idea when it is expected on the market and the price?
Not for a little while, Russ only shared the layout a day or so ago. So no price yet either.

BUT - there are drivers. Miero over on DIYA has written drivers to go with Russ's idea and they are available for testing on Debian, ArchLinux and Angstrom. I need to update the kernel on my Debian installation.

Hi Nige

Alas not. In time it will get incorporated into the repositories I'm sure. In the short term you need to start with vanilla Arch, Debian Wheezy or Angstrom (which isn't really ideal for audio work) and build on from there. I am crawling through that mire myself. I get Miero's work integrated into Debian without much trouble. But I have yet to get wifi working and yet to install Squeezelite, which is my favoured render client.

It's going to be educational!

Yes, I think sound quality is very good. But at least comparisons with other DACs in the same chain would be needed to classify it correctly. At Doede's page you see the ultimate version with Sowter Transformers and some special parts. I decided to go the standard way with Mundorf capacitors only. This kept costs at an exceptable range.

I have I2S out of the BBB today, dropped into my system in place of the RPi.

I have a basic Debian build with Squeezelite running, cabled Ethernet via a wireless router so I can use my android LMS remote, linear PSU.

It works very well (but only on 44/16 flac or wav. High resolution files cause stuttering. Overall I think it sounds cleaner and more relaxed than the RPi, but early days and a bit of a lash up, so hopefully more to come.
