Philomusica of London is an entirely new one on me.
Recorded in 1959 if I am not mistaken. Played on modern instruments but with a light touch and transparent orchestral textures. It is, mostly, a very good presentation. He also recorded the JS Bach Orchestral Suites with the same forces, which I also own, and they are even better presentations. He had a very good feel for Bach’s music and rhythms.

I do like Goodman and the Handover Band's treatment of Haydn's symphonies, that said I don't have very many of them. Dave loved them.

I do like their Beethoven cycle. There is a box set available on JPC.de for €19.99 and it strikes me as odd to have these works played by an orchestra using (older) 'period' instruments, perhaps it's me that's odd

There is nothing odd about this:

Joseph Haydn
Symphony No. 92

Freiburger Barockorchester
René Jacobs conducting

I first heard the Bavarians on a RTÉ Lyric live broadcast of excerpts of Bach's BWV 62 and Zelenka's Missa Dei Filli and they blew me away. The energy, drive and musicality is magnificent. Fortunately, I still have the recording of the broadcast.

Their performance of the Oxford Symphony (mentioned above) was the first choice on Building A Library. I won't argue with that.

Dvorak Miniatures:

These are not inconsequential works. They are works that are String Quartet based and deserve attention in their own right. They are indeed short works all but thet are, nonetheless, very much deserving of attention individually.

I have everything that Goodman recorded in the Haydn Symphonies. They are my go to in the Haydan Symphonies.
