Post by Seán »

The wonderful Frank Wess passed away earlier this week. He graced the Basie orchestra in the fifties and sixties.

He gets his own composition, Seque in C, off to a swinging start on this splendid Basie and Ellington album from 1961, Wess is playing flute. The Basie orchestra is on the left and Ellington's orchestra is on the right channel

and with the NYJQ from 1977

Frank Wess - Flute,
Roland Hanna - Piano,
George Mraz - Bass,
Richard Pratt - Drums

Frank Wess - Flute, Tenor Saxophone
Tommy Flanagan - Piano
Eddie Jones - Double Bass
Bobby Donaldson - Drums

Rest in peace Frank.
