This is a terrific 2XLP set. I find the music to be very exciting, progressive, inventive, intriguing and engaging. It is also very well played by all concerned.
Gosh! That's a great line up, I do not have those recordings. Don Sebesky was a superb composer and arranger of big band music and he wrote great charts for Buddy Rich.
Cheers Seán. Everything about that album is excellent!

That is a superb album. From the early fifties Miles Davis had become a giant of Jazz and was the band leader on all recording sessions. However, he did, quite rightly, hold 'Cannonball' Adderley is such high regard that he was prepared to be included as a sideman on "Somethin' Else".
Cheers Seán and thank you for your erudite comments.

Helge Lien Trio: Hello Troll

I know nothing of this ensemble [piano, bass and drums] other than that they play wonderful music [compositions by Helge Lien] in a very good recording. I find the music to be interesting and exciting.

Yes indeed. His music was what really started me on the road to Jazz listening. Coming from a Classical music listening background I was always impressed with his part writing and arrangements.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band: New Orleans

There is very vibrant music and playing on show here that is simultaneously raw and sophisticated.
Just take one look at them and you know that they are the business!!

This is a terrific live album. Vibrant and exciting music. Vibrant and exciting performances. I was particularly impressed with the bass player, Sam Jones!
