It is far easier and more straightforward way than windows in ram. With this, one can completely turn off sata. The sound is better comparing to my optimized Windows 2012 R2 on SSD with linear PSUs.
For music playback gmusicbrowser can be used or hqplayer. Gmusicbrowser can skip ALSA and connect to DAC directly.
Besides Volumio 2 for x86 is already available. However I prefer ubuntu due to its usability.

Yes, you are right gmusicbrowser bypasses pulse not alsa. I do not know how to bypass alsa.
