Naked Portafilter

Post by tony »

Checking them out especially when I heard the words bottomless and Naked! Seem like a good idea and visually look great. Double or triple basket? From a bit of geeking around on forums and searches double seems the way to go but before I leap thought I would enquire if anybody has had experience with them.

I never tried one myself but they do look the biz. I've gotten very lazy just using a bean to cup machine (Gaggia and very good) so basket porn isn't so addictive!

I see it's a busy day at the Eircom office. Bottomless is the way to go but make sure it fits your equipment, they're very popular with commercial users but rare enough for domestic.

Seems a great way of trying to improve or at least find out how bad ones tamping technique is. And yes Ivor it looks the biz

Yes Ken aware of that looking at ones for the Gaggia Classic so hopefully should fit but funnily enough the other currently sick machine I have(Baby Class) puck is different to the Classic.

My query is around double or triple basket. From what I can ascertain triple seems to have been a fad but on some sites they are advising the triple is the one to go for.

Going in the opposite direction Ivor myself always trying to make it more awkward! I was also investigating the PID diy option for the Classic. But I think I need to do a class first to understand a bit more about the barista game. Also intend to go Ken's popcorn maker(roasting) and green bean route. Seems a nicer way to experiment then Nicks new coffee bag options which are working out at €11 a pop. 3FE are fairly expensive also. Fryderck suggested a shop/type recently but I have forgotten the name.

i have one
i use it in phases with the regular one
i use a double basket
the regular portafilter spout is a pain to keep clean
and naked everything else is a pain to keep clean as on occasion it can spray a little

if youve got a machine with the e61 brewhead it should be handy to find compatible naked portafilter

I buy 1kg from Nick at a time. Sometimes have to arrange to buy it beforehand but it works out far better... mention my name and you may get a discount or additional levy. If you want I'll buy on your behalf. Ken gave me a US website to get green beans from and it did work out well. You get to play about with different beans and blends. Ernesto beside Bombay Pantry isn't too bad by the kg.

Forgot about that. The sweet expresso is fine at €5.5 a bag but it is the others at €11 for a 250g bag is a bit steep. Must give the 1kg's a go and will see what name dropping does to the price. I reckon if I met Nick grand but do you know all the barista's there?? Must give Ernesto's a go sure Laura can pop in from Bombay and get me a discount.

To be fair Nicks at €11 for 500g and a free coffee aint bad at all.

Nigel I will get one for the Gaggia Classic to hopefully ensure it fits. I expect I will do similar to yourself and swap them about.

I was only thinking of sweet espresso. The others are getting expensive but I just use them for press or aeropress. Never for espresso. And no the staff wouldn't know me that well, not well enough to give associates discounts!

Hi Guys, looking for some advice. Herself wants to experiment with a burr grinder (electric is a financial stretch too fat currently) and was looking at either a Porlex or Javapresse. Javapresse is her preference but they don't ship outside the US. Any advice or suggestions for a decent hand powered burr grinder that won't break the bank? Thanks
