On TV tonight at 11.40 is a very interesting film called Songwriter which I have heard about and always wanted to see but always proved tricky to track down. It stars Willie Nelson as a country music songwriter for hire and features Kris Kristofferson in a supporting role. It is on the Talking Pictures channel on Sky (channel number 328).

On BBC 2 tonight is one of my very favourite films, The Conversation, one of Frances Ford Coppola’s extraordinary run of masterpieces in the 1970s, which features career-best performances from Gene Hackman and John Cazale and the ingenious sound design of Walter March.
