Hi
Very interesting having now about 50 hours on it there is certainly nothing to complain about.
It is a very balanced cartridge no matter what you throw at it.
It is very detailed and produces sounds where in some cases have been less clear.
It packs plenty of punch for all music. Classical. Pop. Easy listening, rock.
Vocals are exceptionally clear and natural.
The Hifi News review is certainly more accurate than the Audio Beatnik review which rambled on about the difference point one of a gram makes (rubbish in my opinion)
A stunning cartridge that's for sure with one hell of a sound stage. One thing the review did not do was compare it other high end cartridges. There was also a lot of detail on the build colour etc. It does look splendid I must admit.
If you like trumpets this cartridge blows you away.
Your welcome to listen to it
Kind regards
Alan

Hi All
Just to let you know the Umami cartridge was awarded Cartridge of the Year by the HI Fi + magazine.
They also provided a short review in the summary the reviewer stated
" The umami red is that rare jewel in phono cartridges a design that gives you both the sort of detail and precision of sound that presents whatever music you put on the platter with a laser guided focus on the recording itself and musical grace and passion "
I certainly can't argue with that statement and I would compare it to a London Reference and Dynavector xvit rolled into one.
Not cheap guys but if you can afford it xabd are looking for a new cartridge you would not be disappointed.
Cheers
Alan

Stocking them now with full rebuild upgrade and options. Prices are generally good but oddly the Umami Red is €3900 which seems high. I'm open to correction on that.

Any idea of the trade-in/rebuild costs for (say) an ML cartridge?
