Hiya,

Before cutting them, i would have played with an active crossover !
To remoove the frequency you don't want from the Quads, and improove a smooth the integration with your other speakers.

Well, it's not too late anyway :)

I'm 100% with Ivor : " half decent carpet and very good underlay".

Either you want to "link" your speakers to the concrete and its mass or isolate your speaker from it... and either way a wood floor would be a bad idea.

A simple measurement mike. It's around 100 euros. You know how speakers never sound the same at home... Well the mike can help you spot problems with your room (and/or speakers). You know you could invite people to bring their amps to your house for some music listening :) So you would listen to alot of solid state amps, that might give you the best match with your speakers. There are alof of different technology in Solid States ! Mosfet amps, Germanium, Silicium, Capacitors...
