Our TV is a Sony, about 9½ years old, and all the channels are provided by a Sky HD box [Sky subscription paid each month]. Our set pre-dates the Saorview service by many years. For the past few months, the RTE Text service was available on RTE 1 but since it has gone to HD, the Text service no longer works. We can get it on the computer or iPad, but it was easier and quicker on the TV.
My question is: if we replace our TV with a new model [which has Saorview built in], would this give us the RTE Text service back?

back when I researched this, if it had the saorview approved label, then it would get the text no problem.....

We do not have a Saorview box and the TV does not have Saorview either. We get RTE and all channels from Sky. A Saorview box might solve the problem as would a new TV. But the set we have works fine so the external box might be the answer.
