New DIY Tube Amplifier Project

Post by sdiesel77 »

Hi All,
Big step for me yesterday: Trying for the first time to build an amp (with 6J1 & 6P1 tubes) from scratch 😎🧐 Wish me luck!

Nice work.

One small point: the heater supply is AC and the cabling needs to be as far away as possible to the signal cables. In your pic above, I would get those 'blue' twisted cables into the angle at the back of the chassis and keep them there with a spot of glue. The gain structure might be different for a guitar amp but most guitar amps, the point to point wired ones, keep the heater wiring well out of the way.

Neat work, looking forward to the build.
It's OK, if there is no bread I will eat cake.

Good stuff and good luck. I have a friend building a tube amp at the moment (though he has been at it for the last few years :-) ) - I'll show him your progress to try get him energized

Probably not accessible to most of the forum members but came across this from a recent Stereophile article - looks very interesting for DIY amp builders http://www.burningamp.org

That's a fair point. Was thinking about it but at the time I didn't have enough wire length to do it this way.
I'll try the amp like this (should be ok) and if a hum, I'll rewire the heater [emoji39]
