Small device needed to get Spotify music to a mini hi-fi system

Post by Rocker »

In our house we have a mini hi-fi system in the kitchen area. What small sized device do I need to pickup music on Spotify and input it to the mini system? I have a Sonos system in the house but the Sonos Connect, which would do the job nicely, is too large for where it is to go. So I am looking for something small, is controllable from a smartphone/iPad and is almost foolproof in use. Is there such a thing available?

Thanks.

A chrome cast audio should do the job, if you can still find one, they were discontinued last year. From memory they support spotify connect so you can just use the Spotify app to control it.

Second the Chromecast Audio device, as I use it in exactly this way. Shame it was discontinued, it's really perfect for the job. I'm sure you can pick one up somewhere.

Maybe Logitech Squeezebox Server still works? I used that to stream Spotify before ...

I still use squeezebox server. It will run on a Raspberry Pi, with a Hat dac. There is a 3rd party plugin for Spotify but it's not perfect.
If you're considering a Pi a think Volumio works better with Spotify.

A Pi and dac is about the size of 2 packets of cigarettes.

A Bluetooth receiver into any ‘rca in’ on the mini system amp would do it. The latest aptx HD codec is excellent. Something like this (which I bought last year and transformed an old Sansui AU 417) would be cheap, discreet and great...
