I'd use your router only to access the internet; invest in Apple wireless routers to broadcast your interenet 'round the house...
after many years of rebooting wireless routers at least once a month, I've not had to touch my wireless for about three years now!

I use three airport express units, one is beside the eircom unit, which is only acting as a dsl modem, connected via Ethernet. This unit creates a wireless network, which the other two extend...
the added bonus from "our" perspective is that you can stream your music losslessly to all three units. With either powered speakers, an amp or dac (via optical) receiving the audio stream

update for concerned wifers. Did a wifi test using wifi analyzer and the modem is fairly bad. An old netopia was delivering a much better signal. Also have a fault on my line. The two combined are I believe affecting the wifi quality. The laptop handles it ok but when the nexus loses connection it seems to get into a tizzy and thinks it is still connected. Turning off wifi and reconnecting when standing beside the main modem and all is well again. I haven't tried hopping on one leg when doing that to see if it works better but you never know.
Thanks to all for the advice
