We need a Linux guru here (or at least someone familiar with Linux).
I can't really direct you with detailed instructions, Fran but you need to find the equivalent of the control panel in Linux. it will probably be named "Settings" or some such? In there you should find sound & hopefully the USB audio stick (when it is plugged in).
In whatever player you are using for playback you will probably need to choose this USB stick as the output, unless you can set it to default audio device in above settings.
That's as much as I can help, at the moment.

There's detailed instructions of installing Linux in the documentation section on the main Audiophile Linux page..

Ah yes, this is what my last experience of Linux was like too.
Yes, you should just be able to insert the dac into the usb slot and the system should detect it. Then it becomes available as an option to select as the output in the player. But the system isn't "seeing" the usb audio - like I didn't plug it in. However, I've 3 different usb-spdif converters.
We'll try again....

Fran,
It may be that your PCM2707 USB DAC doesn't work with Linux'x native USB drivers?

Nope, I have it working now with the twisted pear usb-spdif converter. I have sound!!!
Now on to sort out the hiface linux drivers. At that point then we have something that would be worth bringing downstairs to the main system.

I have the drivers installed, the hiface is listed now in the hardware but there is some conflict going on with the alsa driver as I have no sound and Jack (=asio) is crashing.
So a bit more to do yet.
