Tis true, the fans were one of the causes of the aforementioned dithering! I borrowed Pearse's for a weekend at one stage, and while the fans were very quiet indeed they weren't inaudible. Still, they didn't bother me after a while, and even still I'd be hoping I can situate it a little better, and a little less audibly, when it's a permanent addition.
Last time it made a positive difference, and then as soon as it left I persuaded myself I imagined it, and that I hadn't really assessed it properly, etc, etc. Meanwhile, my changing sound paranoia continued unabated, which is downright ridiculous. This purchase should, I hope, aid my sanity greatly!

Re fan noise the 500 version I have has a non adjustable fan that is a little louder than the 1500. Did you hear it in my system?

Simon my AG1500 had the fan set up to run with my 600 watt amps so if you decide not to run the amps through it you can adjust the fan speed way down so you do not hear it.

Yeah, that's my intention Pearse, but I also think positioning in the rack meant that the sound was actually increased in my place. Tony's seemed silent to me, I don't remember hearing it at all.

Markof, I had a quickish look at that link and it's pretty interesting. Must have a closer read tomorrow.

Si,
What is your earthing setup in the house?
You can greatly improve the earth quality by driving an iron rod into the earth.., 6ft long or so and connecting the earth cable at your fuse box to this....
We had to do this in Wicklow, for some reason the earthing of the house as done in a normal fashion was insufficient?

Yeah, I've heard this suggested before and I'm sure it would make a difference, but I always had a few concerns about doing it in our gaff in Dun Laoghaire. In any case, I'm not spending money on something I can't sell if it doesn't work out!

Regenerator just arrived. Feels lighter than I remember Pearse's being, but maybe my memory is off. Good service and speedy delivery from Power Inspired, though. Can't fault that.
