Have you got a Tivoli Model 1 box? Nothing wrong with connecting an iTouch/mp3 player to the input and firing away :) I know it's mono but at least you have decent clear sonics with bass....It's a no brainer if you're into that kind of thing. Do you know what I do? I switch off everything and just embrace the silence :) I think there's just too much music banging around....

Tsk tsk JB, go back and read my entire epistle again!! Every word now!!! ("this probably won't be going into the main system") :P

For now this is probably more for living room (Sonus Faber, Audio Innovations system) and kitchen (midi system with an aux in). If it were going in the mancave then sound quality would be way more important, and that's a whole 'nother can of worms. I'd be up to my oxters in the Build an Audio PC thread then, and I'd drive myself mad tinkering. That may follow in due course, but for now I imagine I'll continue with the trusty CD. Streaming matters a lot less in there since the mancave is really reserved for "serious" listening anyway.

All that said, I am indeed eyeing a pre for both sonic and future-proofing reasons, but that's for another thread!

I'm pretty sure the Tivoli radio alarm in the bedroom takes an input too. Must check that and let the other half know, since she'd like more options in the bedroom. Hang on, that doesn't sound right......

also, when not critically listening, iTunes Remote gives you remote volume control (albeit lossy digital domain) from yo phone...

still the biggest issue I have with iTunes is its abject failure to deal with classical music track names....

let me preface this by saying, lets not embark on the great cable debate....

we're talking entry level, dipping of toes, and saving for TT and phono stage.......

now, my USB cable is a belkin one, so not as cheap and nasty as some... is it worth spending a couple of quid on an audio specific one?

The Absolute Sound's Alan Taffel recently reviewed the dCS Debussay USB DAC, and made a recommendation about USB cable.

Will have to indulge that cable to bring my dac up to debussy levels.Hope belkin dont read that article as the price will probably be adjusted.
