On a side note, Has anybody tried zinio or borrow box on an e-ink reader such as a Boox reader/tablet?

Nope - in fairness I use borrowbox almost exclusively for audio books in the car. I'd be interested to know though - I have used it on an iPad and worked well for reading on a plane etc. A proper e-reader would be much neater though.

Just check your e-reader will work with Borrowbox. The only Kindle it works with is Kindle Fire.
