Re: Valves
Non CA again. What? Can that be done??
Bits may not be bits, but valves sure as sh*t ain't valves!! I recently ordered some NOS Amperex 7308 valves (US equivalent of E188CC) to replace the 6922 valves in my GRAAFs. My Slovenian friend had tempted me with his generous loaner set, so I decided to pull the trigger and get some for myself. I have zero, and I repeat ZERO regrets about spending the money in this case, and I'm sorry now I messed about with all the others for so long. Buying the cheap alternatives was money down the tubes if you'll pardon the pun. These are the real deal.
Delira so I am.

Re: Valves
Worth stressing that I probably wouldn't have bought them without having had the chance to hear them in my own system first. Opportunities like that need to be grasped! Up to that point, price was absolutely no guarantee of success, and I'm still not convinced that "other" expensive NOS options would have worked for me.

Thats great news Simon. Very pleased that your system is singing again. And to think that you were almost going to go for one of them stupid Devialet thingys..

Re: Valves
Only idiots buy Devialets, Dave... :)
Joking aside, I found myself thinking about Devialet the other night as I was listening. As much as I enjoy the sound I'm getting now, the Devialet is still undeniably better in some/many areas. It particularly struck me after a couple of hours of listening when I realised I was in imminent danger of heat stroke. I actually couldn't stay in the room any longer.

Re: Valves
Valves have the coolness factor and a certain magic but to be honest I wouldnt swap my Devialet for any other amp that I've heard in the past.
One exception though, that Airtight pre feeding into the Jadis JA30 monoblocs that we heard at Ciaran's one time. That was pure magic. Would love to test the Devialet alongside that.

Re: Valves
I prefer Ciaran's current system, but yes, I would love to put the Dev up against something like that in a well-balanced system and a good room.

Re: Valves
That is good news tempered with you hankering for the flat shiny black box.
Ciaran's you prefer compared to your own or the devialet? Not clear obviously heatstroke is affecting your judgement.
