Night Watch. I'd read the book and I thought the dramatisation was great. Good old BBC!

I suppose everything is in the audio path really - but you know what I mean, its not like its a coupling cap or an RIAA cap.....

I had a quick headphone listen (don't have a CD player!) to the two Van files. The new one sounds smoother and more refined but sorely lacking in the startling 'life' the older one had. For longer term listening the new one is probably the real deal but I'd have to hear it properly through the system. Still I have to say that the digital recorder sounds pretty good :-)

Yep, I was just splitting hairs. I find it an amazing difference in sound for a change in PS cap.

Much improved here this evening, I knew from the first few bars. Now let's see if it lasts.

Due to some electrical work in my place 2 days ago I had to power down my Wadia. Turned it on this evening and it does sound a little flat and a bit uninvolving. Not much mind but I do reckon it should be better. Turntable and phonostage sound absolutely fine after a short warm up period so it might be the Wadia Simon or a combo of both it and your amp.

Good work - a recording of these two situations would be great - maybe some time in the future it might be possible?

Is it possible that there could be a problem with the mains coming into your house. A friend of mine had terrible trouble with mains to his house as there was an iron works up the road using the same mains. He got on to the ESB who put up a transformer on the pole outside his house which made a big difference to the sound quality of his system.
