That looks intriguing as I am not very familiar with Zelenka. However, I have started to appreciate Kozena's voice lately!! :)
What are you listening to?
Re: What are you listening to?
Listening to Beethoven: Symphony #3 Mengelberg/Concertgebouw this evening. Recorded in 1940. The sound is a bit dull and muted, but otherwise the recording is very good. Seems like Decca removed a bit of the higher frequencies of this recording. I have been trying to explore Mengelberg as conductor lately. Anybody here that is fond of his interpretations?

Re: What are you listening to?
I really like Kubelik in Schumann and was playing the Rhenish from that cycle (on vinyl) only the other day!

Zelenka has a good following around here Peter and he is well worth investigating; a definite musical voice of his own.

Re: What are you listening to?
it's really a very good set indeed; like Sawallisch, he proved that Schumann orchestral works didn't have to be stodgy... brisk tempi, light orchestration and plenty of colour in the playing.. it's really one of the finest of the 'old style' sets.. as I know our friend Dave agrees.fergus wrote:I really like Kubelik in Schumann and was playing the Rhenish from that cycle (on vinyl) only the other day!

Re: What are you listening to?
On a completely different topic, I noticed we passed 1000 pages back there...
I have known in the past that some threads have started to 'glitch' when they get too big... might that be a problem here? Should we ask Fran, or maybe start another one, just to be on the safe side?
