turntable repairs

Post by MooseTrackz »

I'm the proud owner of a rather dysfunctional vintage dual 701 direct drive turntable that has fallen (literally) on hard times and is in need of repair. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'd like to get someone who knows what's what to have a look and give me a prognosis. Any and all help gratefully appreciated.

Cheers

Em, well there's the HiFi hospital in blanchardstown, Dublin?

For what it's worth: many old direct drive tables relied on proprietary chips that are no longer available if they are gone. The other thing is to realistically assess what the deck is worth and if you would get a better sounding replacement for about the repair cost?

I came across this little gem: http://www.vinylengine.com/ for anyone looking for manuals and tips on repairing TT's

It even explains how to set up the tone arm which is the sort of info I was after.

Well, setting up the arm is something that there would be good experience around here, and vinyl engine is great (use their alignment gauge). I thought though from the first post that there was something electronic wrong with the table?

well my fault for not being clear, the nephew was looking after the place for a while and surprise surprise the tt didn't work so well. eventually the story emerged that there had been an "accident" and here i is looking for help to get it back to its original state ie working. The motor runs well the spinny yoke spins the arm goes up and down, it just doesn't quite go as far over as it used to and not being familiar with setting up tt arms I had a few ???? and was looking for some help to put it all right, again, but more importantly to get that big happy smile re located back on my face.
