Surround Sound wiring

Got a query from a friend concerning wiring for surround sound as part of a refurb job.
I am assuming 2 fronts and sub woofer either wired behind the tv/receiver or else sub woofer behind the sofa if feasible and then the two satelites wired onto the walls behind the sofa or at sides depending on layout.
I take it the receiver can also be remote with speaker wiring going to it but then hdmi to TV?

Is this correct or are there other options to be considered?

There would usually be a centre channel speaker in addition to the ones you have mentioned.

it's not unusual to have two further side channels either, as in 7.1 sound. Plus if he's considering a projector now or at some point in teh future, a HDMI lead going from behind the amp to behind/above the seating position might have to be considered. Generally Sub Woofer leads tend to be heavier than standard speaker cables and they are mono.
