Sorry to hear about your trusty old CD player having given up the ghost.
CD players are now cheap... lots of value in good second hand stuff around these days. You could even pick up a 5 disc CD changer fairly cheaply... see here.

Cloney's have a nice Copland CD player and Arcam FMJ CD / DVD player for sale on the pre owned section as well..
As for other media player options ... perhaps somebody else could advise etc

If you like the tactile feel of routing through your CD collection then definitely give Cloney's a call as they probably have some good second hand CD players hanging around. Of course if PC playback is of interest to you there loads in the Computer Audio section who can advise on that.
Might help if you mention what kinda budget you have in mind.

I have an Audio Alchemy DDS III which is surplus to requirements as I'm all vinyl and computer these days....
I've owned from new, bought from Noel.... great player (even better as a transport...)

It needs to be said at the outset that I really dislike single disk cd players. When the 5 & 6 disc players came out I was ecstatic, load up five discs hit random and sit back and while away an evening. Imagine my delight when I found out you could get 50, 250 and 300 disc units, unfortunately they turned out to be very problematic and more hassle than even I was prepared to put up with.
jaybee that looks to be a fine piece of equipment and if I was prepared to go back to a single disc unit we'd be negotiating a deal already, but alas I'm not going that route anytime soon.
I like the idea of the brennan JB7 but I don't need another amp. I'll probably pick a 5 disc cd player as a stop gap until I get my head around the music server setup. The last thing I want is a computer in the front room, talking she who must be obeyed into allowing the albums to be present was endeavor not to be repeated.
The idea of having a unit that I can stick a cd into, listen while it rips it, and have it there for time eternal without ever having to search through 100's of jewel cases looking for the right cd for the right case again is quite tempting.

Well I'd probably find a couple K to invest in this new adventure. As I'm not really clear as to what all is involved that would have to be flexible but 2 is a good starting point. I read a review of the Audio Glu music Server, if I read the article correctly then all it is is a hard disc with a cd player in a case or a ripping machine, but you still need to run it through an external DAC. I'm looking for an all in one solution, ahh the quest continues.

If you're going down that route you might as well go for computer audio and be done with it.... the "lads" are good for advice and assistance.

This might be a solution to your problem my friend:

You can buy them here:

The X10 looks interesting. Install a hard drive in the drive bay and it looks the biz. No idea how good it is though...

I thought this would be much easier to achieve than it is turning out to be.
This seems to be the answer:
http://sygnifi.myshopify.com/products/c ... -audio-x30 (4 and a half stars from hifi choice) better than a hot stick in the eye!
It ticks all the boxes and provides an upgrade path, might have to do some investigating.
