I should probably have said also....
what are they ?
I've heard .22uF and .68uF 220v !!!

I looked on radionics and frankly some of their classes of capacitor sound made up!!
Tantalum!! surely that's a byproduct of unobtainium....

220 K 400 is 0.20 uF but than for 400V
E.g. At mouser.com
http://nl.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Vish ... CbAwAmk%3d
Look for these
VISHAY BC CONDENSADOR MKT-368 EPOXY 2222 or BFC2
ROHS VISHAY BC COND
MKT-368 EPOXI 0'22UF 400V R-22'5
220 K 400 V R-22.5

Yeah,
I would have read that as 22pF (22 x multiplier 1) with 10% tolerance (k) and 400v rating.
Jaybee - would that nit be a suppressor capacitor across live and neutral on the on/off switch?
Elsewhere on that circuit (maybe the second cap in your pic) is on the other motor winding to change it out of phase?

Hi Fran,
The one on the other side of the block is the same type...
A the pair of caps on the block are the only ones in the TT

So; one is across the switch, taking live through the cap to the motor, neutral goes straight to the motor, and there's a third red wire taking the live feed after the cap to the motor, which would serve to phase it....??
ps I'm sure that to a electronics whizz that reads like a 2 year olds assessment of the circuit!!!

4 wires coming out of the motor - = 2 windings. Each winding needs to get AC power, and one winding needs to be out of phase from the other. The capacitor does this.
So you'll have neutral coming from the mains and two ends of the windings connect to it. From the live you should have a fairly big power resistor (this drops the voltage from 220V to ~140V or so I think. Then one widning connects straight to that live after the resistor, the other winding has the capacitor (or the 2 capacitors, could be in series or in parallel) in its line.
In that circuit, the transformer is probably a power resistor.
BTW, that is the naim armageddon PS and it made quite an improvement to a similar TT here ages ago.
