An absolutely fantastic programme about the Muscle Shoals recording studio its history and its personalities on BBC 4 the other night.... If it crops up again (and it will) be sure to record it or better still watch with with a good bottle (
and record it).
The BBC iPlayer won't work in Ireland but the clips do work (makes no sense to me but there ye go!)

Just the clips...

Great stuff alright. BBC4 on a Friday night is always worth keeping an eye on.

It is, as I say... in the company of a decent bottle it's a good night in!

In fairness a lot of studios get that tag... but to answer your question yes they were, they were also known as 'fame' and a few other well earned monikers. The most remarkable thing was that this funkiest house band around was made of white farmers in deepest Alabama!

I saw this some time ago when it became available on Amazon Prime. Very good and I agree with the recommendation. After seeing the film I finally understood the line "muscle shoals got the swampers" from "Sweet Home Alabama".
I preferred this one but two slightly similar ones that were also interesting were "20 feet from stardom" and Dave Grohl's "Sound City" movie

Add "Standing In The Shadow of Motown" to that list it's brilliant, the story of the Funk Brothers.

"Oil City Confidential" is another to add to the must be watched list.
The story of Dr Feelgood, four men in cheap suits who crashed out of Canvey Island in the early '70s, sandpapered the face of rock'n'roll
