Looking for some advice.
I have to ship my 19kg Ear amp back to the UK for servicing. Any suggestions where I can get appropriate packing materials and box so that it safely arrives and returns to me?

I suppose i need dense foam material inside the box.

All suggestions or sources welcome.

I might have bubble wrap somewhere in the shop, boxes too. I'll have a look tomorrow. A "box inside a box" might best. I might have various boxes for the job.

Some notes:


Remove the valves and place each in its own box and then in a second box to make sure they can't be smashed.

Wrap the amp itself in bubble wrap and then pack with some packing material - anything a bit stiffer than bubble wrap is good. Think that expanded paper, or peanut foam etc. make sure that any switches, volume knobs etc etc can't be thrashed - the amp should be held tightly in the box with no movement.

Double box - if you can with a layer of wrap between boxes. If you can't find a pair of suitable boxes, a decent workaround is to hot melt glue extra layers of cardboard (or hardboard if you have any lying around) to the inside of the outer box.

Courier companies take no notice of fragile, or caution on boxes, the standard for packing is that box should withstand (and protect) if thrown from a height of 1m to a concrete floor. Ouch.

that's probably extreme, but it will get thrown around the back of a van for sure.
