Always wanted one of the originals back in the day when they were sold in Laffayette (?) on the quay. Couldn't afford one at the time so went for a Dual 505 which wasn't a bad deck in its day. Will be interesting to see the price - I predict it will be fairly high.
The standard ones are very well built, and partnered with the right arm make a great table. The base on them is a really heavy rigid rubber type compound that damps the be jaysus out of it. The heavy alu plate top on this, with the nearer brass platter should make a better table again. It will be interesting to see the final price, but at 2-3k it might be a good buy.
Depends a fair bit on the arm too. If it was that price and you had to add a better arm, the costs start to rise a lot.
Reading the blurb for the 1200G I think it`s called - the limited one - there is mention of a "magnesium tonearm". Fairly tricky to manufacture I imagine, if even possible. Seems a bit overkill if true as the arm isn`t up to much and any Rega would trounce it imo.
While I'm sure they can be great tables and they certainly have their fans, I never liked the look of them. To me, they're DJ decks and I can't help thinking of the likes of Fat Boy Slim, scratching and mixing and generally "large-ing" it up with some "bangin'" dance tracks in an Ibiza club...
Unfair perhaps...but I just don't see them as domestic turntables.
